Who I Am
Hi there—I’m Dylan Davis. I grew up in a small town just outside of Asheville, North Carolina, surrounded by forests, mountain creeks, and plenty of quiet time to observe how things are made. My parents ran a small handcrafted wood-shop business, where I spent my teenage summers sanding, staining, and occasionally helping with their product photos for the local craft fair. From those early years I developed a soft-spot for objects that are both beautiful and functional.
After high school I headed to the University of North Carolina, where I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a minor in Visual Arts. The visual arts part was more for fun—I loved sketching, working with textural materials, and learning how design choices speak without words. But the business degree gave me grounding in how to evaluate product quality, cost, supply-chains, and what makes a product worth recommending.

My Journey & Why This Blog
After college I moved to Charlotte and took a position at a mid-size upscale jewelry boutique (though technically not under the “Steve’s Fine Jewelry” name—just to be clear). I learned the behind-the-scenes of the jewelry world: sourcing gemstones, inspecting metal quality, understanding what differentiates a “good” piece from a “so-so” piece, and photographing items so they looked true to life. I stayed in that field for about five years, and during that time I began noticing a pattern: whether fine jewelry or everyday accessories, so many buyers told me “I wish I had known more before I bought it” or “The picture looked great—until I saw it in real life.” That stuck with me.
In early 2025 I took the leap and created this blog—choosing the domain stevesfinejewelry.com because I felt the name still carried trust and familiarity (even though I no longer operate a retail boutique under that exact name). My focus shifted: instead of selling jewelry directly, I now dedicate my time to researching, testing, and reviewing products across many categories—especially items where quality and honest usage matter. My goal is simple: to help you make confident buying decisions without the guesswork, to share real-world insights, and to steer you toward products I’d use myself (and that I’d feel good recommending to friends).
What I Do Here
On this site you’ll find detailed product reviews, real-life usage reports (good and bad), practical buying tips, and helpful comparisons. I aim to go beyond marketing copy. I want you to know what a product feels like in day-to-day use, how it holds up over time, what trade-offs to watch for, and whether the price is truly justified. At the same time, because I participate in the Amazon Affiliate program, I select and link to products I genuinely believe in—but you’ll always find my honest take (and if something doesn’t live up to expectations, I’ll say so).
I blend my experience from the jewelry and luxury goods world—where craftsmanship, materials, finish and presentation matter—with a down-to-earth approach. Whether I’m reviewing a gadget, a home accessory, or a piece of wearable tech, the same questions guide me: Would I buy this with my own money? Will it still make me smile six months from now? And is the “value” story solid?
My Lifestyle & Why It Matters
I now live just outside of Charleston, South Carolina, along the coast—a place where I can walk the beach before sunrise, sip strong coffee while planning my next review, and take weekday hikes in the marshlands when time permits. That pace gives me the freedom to thoroughly test products in a variety of conditions: humid summer weather, salty air near the sea, commuting gear, leisure-time gear. I live and use what I review.
When I’m not conducting product tests or writing, I’m often exploring local artisan markets, taking my vintage film camera out for a walk, or refining a home-office setup to reflect comfort and purposeful design. That mix of aesthetics and utility is what drives me: I believe a well-chosen product doesn’t just “work”—it delights.
Why Trust Me
Because I’ve been in the shoes of both seller and buyer. I’ve seen what goes into making a product look impressive in a glass case, and I’ve heard what buyers wish they’d known ahead of time. I bring that lens here: leaning not on hype, but on honest testing, clear writing, transparent links, and respectful recommendations. My mission is for this blog to be a place you come back to when you have a product-purchase question, need an independent take, or want a real look behind the scenes.
Thank you for stopping by. I’m excited to share what I discover—and even more excited if it helps you find something you’ll genuinely enjoy for years to come.
Warmly,
Dylan Davis
